Advantages and Application of PCMC

Para-chloro-meta-cresol(PCMC) is also known as 4-chloro-3-cresol or 4-chloro-3-methylphenol. The CAS form of PCMC is 59-50-7. It is a white to off white crystalline powder. The fine quality of PCMC and its unbeatable chemical and physical properties have earned manufacturers huge clientele from different parts of the globe.

PCMC is an antimicrobial chemical compound recycled to control bacteria, algae, and fungi in adhesives, emulsions, paints, and wash tanks. chloroxylenol is commonly used in sterile soaps and household antiseptics such as Dettol liquid. Findings have shown a low antimicrobial activity that is enhanced by additives. Its uncontaminated action is due to disruption of cell membrane potentials. Its use in Dettol soap is to enhance the killing of bacteria, fungi and microbes in humans.

Chloroxylenol, a kind of PCMC, is an antimicrobial chemical compound used to control bacteria, algae, and fungi in adhesives, emulsions, paints, and wash tanks. It is also commonly used in antibacterial soaps and household antiseptics such as Dettol liquid and cream, and ointments, such as the now discontinued Medicated Vaseline. Studies have shown a low anti microbial activity which is enhanced by additives. Its antibacterial action is due to disruption of cell membrane potentials. Chloroxylenol is not significantly toxic to humans and other mammals, is practically non-toxic to birds, moderately toxic to freshwater invertebrates and highly toxic to fish. It is a mild skin irritant and may trigger allergic reactions in some individuals. Cross sensitivity with chlorocresol is common.

Generally, PCMC plays an important role in many areas. It is used as a solvent in some printing inks, paints, lacquers, adhesives, copolymers, coatings, finishings and pesticides. It is also used as a chemical intermediate and as an ingredient in wood preservatives and floor sealants. It indicates that long-term inhalation of high concentrations of isophorone causes central nervous system effects. Limited evidence in animal studies suggests that PCMC may cause birth defects such as fetal malformations and growth retardation from inhalation exposure to isophorone during pregnancy.  No information is available on the reproductive, developmental, or carcinogenic effects of isophorone in humans.  EPA has classified PCMC as a Group C, possible human carcinogen.

It is precisely because of these advantages and application, PCMC sales with a significant improvement per year and plays an important role in chemistry area. PCMC is processed by special skilled and highly experienced professionals, and there is no doubt that PCMC still has a great market prospect. Therefore, believe that in the near future, PCMC will apply to a larger scale.
