A Brief Introduction about Triclosan and Triclocarban

Triclosan (tcs), whose chemical formula is C12H7Cl3O2 and CASRN (Chemical Abstracts Registry Number) is 3380-34-5, is normally a white or ff-white crystalline powder with slightly phenol odor. Triclosan is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents and alkali.

As a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, Triclosan 3380-34-5 is widely used in soap, toothpaste and other daily chemicals. Its basic features are as follows: First, it's a highly pure white powder with fragrant, and would not contaminate products and skin. Second, it's soluble in organic solvents and surfactants. Third, it has a high degree of stability towards acid and alkali and heat. Fourth, it has widespread killing and inhibition power when dealing with pathogenic Gram-positive Yin, yeast and viruses (such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies virus and HIV). Fifth, it's non-irritating to the skin. Sixth, Triclosan (TCS) is equally effective to antibiotics bacteria and non-antibiotic bacteria.

A Brief Introduction about Triclosan and Triclocarban

In Aug. 6, 1998, Dr Stuart Levy from Tufts University, United States wrote in the journal Nature that triclosan antibacterial agents could effectively inhibit harmful bacteria: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and protect the beneficial bacteria. According to Dr. Peter Gilbert in the UK, Dr. Levy's test proved triclosan would not cause bacterial resistance. There are at least seven peer-reviewed articles and papers to prove this point, including a paper published in the August 2004 on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and which Dr. Levy himself was involved in writing.

As an efficient, broad-spectrum, safe new antibacterial agent, triclocarban (tcc), whose CASRN is 101-20-2, has a wide range application in medical disinfectants. Added in detergent, Triclocarban can kill germs on clothing and eliminate odors produced by bacteria. In anti-bacterial deodorant soap, it is conducive to reduce cross- infection, eliminate human odor and prevent sexually transmitted diseases. In mouthwash and toothpaste, it can reduce gum infection, eliminate bad breath and remove plaque. In foot care agent, Triclocarban eliminates the odor and prevent beriberi. In cleanser or cleansing cream, it kills harmful bacteria causing acne. In baby bath powder, it protects the baby's skin to prevent prickly heat and rashes. In shampoos, it stops itching and dandruff. In addition, Triclocarban TCC can also be used in antibacterial towels, cleaning wipes, wound ointment products. Triclocarban TCC fungicides have good adhesion to the fibers, so it's very suitable for adding in anti-bacterial and anti-odor fabric finishing agents.

In general, Triclosan and Triclocarban are active ingredients in fungicides. The former is internationally recognized specially effective fungicide, and the latter is widely used in various sterilization products and medical antibacterial products.
